Discover
Moses, knowing he will not enter the land, prays that God will appoint a leader "so God's people would not wander aimlessly" — and God gives Joshua. The daughters of Zelophehad ask for their rightful inheritance, and God honors their plea. Morning and evening sacrifices remind Israel that fellowship with a holy God requires continual atonement. Every piece is a picture: Joshua the shepherd-leader, the endless offerings. Then Luke 3 brings the reality. John preaches repentance that bears visible fruit, and when Jesus comes to be baptized, heaven opens: the Son stands in the water, the Holy Spirit descends like a dove, and the Father's voice declares, "You are my beloved Son. In you I am well pleased" (Luke 3:22). Joshua was an earthly picture, but Jesus is the true Good Shepherd. The repeated sacrifices pointed to His single, once-for-all offering. It ALL points to Jesus.
Reflect
John declared that genuine repentance produces visible fruit. What is one specific area of my life where Jesus is calling for real transformation, rather than good intentions?
Fellowship
Talk with someone about this: At Jesus' baptism, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are all present. What does that moment tell us about who Jesus is?
Prayer
Father, thank You for sending Your beloved Son. Lead me to Jesus, my Rock and Shepherd, and let my repentance bear authentic fruit through Your Spirit. Lord Jesus, help me not only to know Your Word but to live it. Transform my heart so that my life reflects You more each day. Amen.
Live
Choose one small change today that honors Jesus — extend kindness, resist a common temptation, or forgive quickly. Follow the Shepherd step by step.
