Today’s readings

Discover
Numbers teaches the binding sacredness of vows — a person's word must be kept — and shows God's righteous judgment on Midian. God takes sin with total seriousness; if sin were trivial, Calvary would never have been required. Then Luke 4: "Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit... was led by the Spirit into the wilderness." Where Israel spent forty years in the wilderness and repeatedly failed, Jesus spent forty days fasting and triumphed completely, answering every assault with "It is written." Returning to Nazareth, He reads Isaiah 61 and announces, "Today, this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing." The townspeople, blinded by familiarity, reject Him. David's thirst becomes our prayer: "God, you are my God. I will earnestly seek you. My soul thirsts for you" (Psalm 63:1). The true and faithful Son wields the Word in perfect obedience — and still, some who knew Him best would not receive Him. It ALL points to Jesus.
Reflect
What weapon do I reach for when temptation comes? And has familiarity with Jesus ever caused me to take His grace for granted, the way Nazareth did?
Fellowship
Talk with someone about this: What Scripture passages help anchor you when you face spiritual attack or temptation?
Prayer
Father, give me a soul that thirsts deeply for You. Fill me with Your Word so I can stand firm against temptation, and keep my heart in awe of Jesus. Lord Jesus, help me not only to know Your Word but to live it. Transform my heart so that my life reflects You more each day. Amen.
