Discover
Israel deserves judgment, but God shows mercy. Barabbas deserves punishment, but Jesus takes his place. That is a picture of the Gospel. The guilty man goes free while the innocent Jesus is condemned. We are like Barabbas. Jesus took the judgment our sin deserved so we could receive mercy. The crown of thorns points to the King who came to save us.
Reflect
1. Where have I experienced God's mercy after failure? 2. What does Barabbas teach me about what Jesus did for me? 3. Is my hope resting in Jesus or in my own strength?
Fellowship
Ask one another: What does it mean personally that Jesus took our place?
Prayer
Father, thank You for Your mercy. Jesus, thank You for taking our place. Holy Spirit, help us trust our King and follow Him today. Amen.
Live
Remember what grace means: Jesus took your place. Thank Him - and show that same mercy to someone else today.
