Day 4 · January 4
A devotional for today
Today’s readings
- Old Testament: GENESIS 8:1-10:32
- New Testament: MATTHEW 4:12-25
- Psalm: PSALM 4:1-8
- Proverb: PROVERBS 1:20-23
Old Testament
God remembers Noah, dries the earth, and renews his blessing after the flood. Yet even after judgment, sin survives in Noah’s family, and the nations spread across the earth, setting the stage for God’s redemptive plan.
New Testament
Jesus begins his public ministry, calls disciples, announces the kingdom, and heals the sick. Light dawns in Galilee as Isaiah’s promise comes alive in him.
Psalm
Psalm 4 moves from anguish to peace. God hears the righteous when they call and gives deeper joy than earthly abundance can offer.
Proverb
Wisdom stands in public and calls simple people to turn. God’s truth is not hidden from the world; the question is whether we will listen.
Discover
Jesus is the great light who steps into a darkened world and calls ordinary people to follow him. He is not merely a teacher of truth but the very light of life.
Reflect
After the flood, the world still needs more than a fresh start; it needs a
Savior. Jesus enters that broken world and brings the kingdom near.
Fellowship
What does Noah’s altar teach about worship after deliverance?
Why does Jesus begin by calling people rather than building systems?
How does Psalm 4 describe real peace?
Where is wisdom calling for your attention right now?
Prayer
Lord Jesus, shine your light into every dark place in me. Give me a ready heart to follow where you lead.
Live
Respond quickly to one clear prompting from God today instead of delaying obedience.
