Day 28 · January 28
A devotional for today
Today’s readings
- Old Testament: EXODUS 5:22-7:25
- New Testament: MATTHEW 18:21-19:12
- Psalm: PSALM 23:1-6
- Proverb: PROVERBS 5:22-23
Old Testament
Moses brings Israel’s complaint to God, and the Lord responds by declaring again who he is and by striking Egypt with the first plagues. God’s deliverance unfolds according to his word, even when hardened hearts resist.
New Testament
Jesus teaches radical forgiveness, the sanctity of marriage, and the seriousness of receiving the kingdom like a child. Grace never trivializes truth; it empowers faithful relationships and soft hearts.
Psalm
Psalm 23 portrays the Lord as shepherd, guide, provider, defender, and host. Life with God is not free from dark valleys, but it is full of his presence.
Proverb
The wicked are trapped by their own sin, but discipline and wisdom preserve life. Sin’s cords tighten gradually until they hold fast.
Discover
Jesus is the Good Shepherd of Psalm 23 who leads, protects, and brings his people home. He is also the one who teaches forgiveness because he himself will bear sin’s debt.
Reflect
God is neither rushed by resistance nor defeated by it. In the meantime, he shepherds his people with patient care and teaches them the kind of mercy that reflects his own heart.
Fellowship
Why is God’s self-revelation to Moses so crucial in a time of discouragement?
What makes forgiveness so diIicult and so necessary?
How does Psalm 23 comfort you personally?
Where might sin be tightening cords around a habit or attitude?
Prayer
Shepherd King, lead me through every valley and soften my heart toward forgiveness, purity, and childlike trust.
Redeeming Lord, thank you for remembering your people and revealing your name. Lead us by your mercy and prepare our hearts for the Lamb. Looking Ahead The final days of January center on Passover, deliverance, consecration, and Jesus’ march toward Jerusalem. January 29 - Day 29
Live
Forgive one offense today in prayer, even if reconciliation will take more time and wisdom.
