A devotional for today
Today’s readings
- Old Testament: GENESIS 44:1-45:28
- New Testament: MATTHEW 14:13-36
- Psalm: PSALM 18:37-50
- Proverb: PROVERBS 4:11-13
Old Testament
Joseph tests his brothers one last time, then reveals himself in tears and forgiveness. What they meant for harm, God has bent toward preservation and future blessing.
New Testament
Jesus feeds the five thousand, walks on the sea, and heals all who touch him. His compassion multiplies provision and his authority transcends natural limits.
Psalm
Psalm 18 ends in praise for victory, steadfast love, and the Lord’s faithfulness to his anointed king. Deliverance leads to worship among the nations.
Proverb
Stay on the path of wisdom and do not turn aside. Guidance matters not only at the beginning of faith but at every step.
Discover
Joseph’s forgiving revelation points to Christ, who reveals himself not to destroy his guilty brothers but to save them. Jesus also proves himself the bread-giving, sea-ruling Lord of abundance and peace.
Reflect
One of God’s most beautiful works is the redemption of what seemed irreparably broken. Forgiveness does not call evil good; it confesses that God is greater than evil.
Fellowship
What changed in Joseph that allowed him to reveal himself so fully?
What do the feeding and sea miracle reveal about Jesus?
How does Psalm 18 connect deliverance and praise?
Where do you need to stay the course instead of drifting?
Prayer
Redeeming God, thank you that you can bring good out of what was meant for harm. Teach me the forgiving heart of Christ.
Live
Extend one undeserved kindness today to someone who cannot repay you.
